Introducing Singapore’s Gem Guru - Howe Wei

Howe's interest in gemstones was ignited when he visited a diamond-cutting factory while he was on a holiday in Amsterdam. He left The Republic of Singapore Air Force to pursue his interest and completed education training with one of the most prestigious gem academies in the industry, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) where he mastered diamond certification and gemstone evaluation.

After obtaining his GIA Graduate Gemologist Diploma and building a comprehensive knowledge of diamonds and coloured stones, he started apprenticing under Ben Hoo, a first-generation gemologist in Singapore at the Big Lab Research in 2003. He also had the privilege of being mentored by Ben Hoo, another pioneer gemologist in Singapore.

Howe's gemology career came full circle in 2019 when he returned to the Big Lab Research to collaborate with his mentor, Ben.
